We have seen a crazy uphill battle in the movie industry over the last calendar year thanks to COVID. The year 2020 was going to be a huge year thanks to so many big releases that would hit the box office in the second half of the year. We were all so excited for blockbusters like No Time to Die, Black Widow, and Wonder Woman 1984. Due to the pandemic, we have seen movies pushed back, theatres closing, and productions being postponed or even canceled.
The entertainment industry has never seen anything like COVID, and hopefully, never will again. It has been a wild ride, and we were so close to getting back into the swing of things. Theaters were opening back up, blockbuster movies were getting release dates, and films were back returning to production. That glimmer of hope has lasted approximately a month. Most theatres across the country and overseas were making their slow return with some new and old films hitting the big screens. I finally got the courage to see New Mutants in theatres, the worst choice of my life, and AMC was doing a great job with social distancing! Everything was finally starting to feel normal. It breaks my heart to say that this is coming to an end with Regal Cinemas/Cineworld will be closing all theatres in the US and the UK starting October 8th. .

The decisions to close the theatres may hurt, but it truly makes sense. With Black Widow and No Time to Die being pushed back to the spring of 2021, there is no reason for theatres to stay open. There is still hope for Wonder Woman 1984 to release December 25th, 2020, but we will likely see Warner Bros. make the push back to the spring or even the summer of 2021. If everything can make a proper return 2021 might be an absolutely incredible year to return to the movies with all the new releases! As someone who loved movies so much to work in the theatres for four years, this has been overwhelmingly depressing. Due to the destruction of COVID, we may be nearing the end of the movie theatre industry.
