It has finally been revealed who will be portraying iconic characters Joel and Ellie in HBO’s adaptation of The Last of Us. Game of Throne alumni Bella Ramsey, who portrayed Lyanna Mormont, is going to be playing Ellie, while fellow Game of Throne alum, and The Mandalorian himself, Pedro Pascal will be playing Joel. The castings were reported by Deadline Hollywood and The Hollywood Reporter and confirmed by writer of the both game franchise and show, Neil Druckmann.
Not much is known about the show quite yet. Craig Mazin, creator of HBO’s Chernobyl miniseries, is joining Druckmann in bringing this vision to life. There is currently no release window for the show but now that leads have been cast we can hope that filming is getting underway. The show is going to be following the story of the first game but according to Mazin the journey will be a bit more fleshed out. “In this case, I’m doing it with [Neil Druckmann], and so the changes that we’re making are designed to fill things out and expand, not to undo, but rather to enhance.”
